Model United Nations (MUN) is an event during which students age 16-19 simulate the discussions that are held at the UN about a certain topic, with the goal of promoting international understanding and learning more about the UN system. Prior to the MUN-day, students follow training provided by UN and local experts and are assigned a country which they will need to study and speak on behalf of on the MUN-day.
The experience is particularly beneficial to students who wish to pursue a career in international relations, particularly in the UN system, or in the topic being discussed. The YDK Kevin Eustatia Palm, a former member of Hoben Goberná, started his career at MUN in Trinidad & Tobago, after which he participated in MUN at the UN Headquarters in NY. Now he is the Dutch Kingdom’s first UN youth representative from the Caribbean.
Same as we did for Kevin, the Rotary family in the Caribbean, alongside several partners, is offering two (2) students from Curaçao the opportunity to participate in Model United Nations in Trinidad & Tobago on November 16, 2024, free of charge. These students will be selected out of a group of 20 students who will all follow a certified intensive 7-week online and local training by experts, as well as visit relevant institutions, also free of charge. The topic this year is climate change and gender.
Besides the intensive training and the possibility to participate in Model United Nations in Trinidad, this group may also be invited to participate locally in other events organized by the UN System or related to climate and gender. Some may even be invited to other international events in the months to come, to represent Curaçao, the Kingdom or Small Islands Developing States (SIDS).
If you are interested in a career in international relations, at an international institution or in climate or gender, and have proven skills in leadership and community engagement, this is a great opportunity for you. Please go ahead and register at the link below for an intensive free training and a chance to participate in MUN-day in Trinidad & Tobago. There are only 20 spots this time!
